Back in 1911 when the silent and new sound movies were all the rage. A theater on Grant street was packing the movie goers in.
The Showplace Theater formerly called the Try-It and later the Unity Theatre was the hub of activity for the Black Rock area. The Theater was going concern right up to the early 90’s.
In 1993 the Showplace was repurposed into a concert venue by the late Peter Goretti. Through his efforts attracted such great performers as the Goo Goo Dolls, Tragically Hip, Johnny Winters and many more top performers.
Fast forward to 2009..Joe “Roxbury” Breidenstein took possession of the old and now empty building. He had a vision to transform the theatre into a top Buffalo music venue.
With his construction team from the Glass Block Guys and over a period of 5 years he has transformed the venue into a totally remodeled and updated beauty.
It boasts a Upper Balcony Lounge, full main floor bar, lighting and sound system as well as brand new restrooms, and has a capacity of over 800 people.
Joe is part of this Buffalo rising experience and has been spurred on by the enthusiastic response from the local community and the City of Buffalo.
