We recently visited Ulrich's Tavern for a friend's birthday, where we hoisted a few pints of German beer & watched the Sabres season opener on TV. Founded in 1868, Ulrich's is Buffalo's oldest continuously operating bar. While we were there, we perused the menu & decided to return for an authentic German dinner the next day. We started with the Liver & Onion soup and a large order of Potato Pancakes. In addition to the regular potato pancakes, Ulrich's also serves Sweet Potato pancakes with chutney & sour cream - delicious! Also on the menu: Sauerbraten (top round beef marinated for 7 days), Schnitzel (breaded veal cutlet), homemade German Potato Salad, Spaetzle (homemade German noodles, pan fried in butter), Red Cabbage, and Sauerkraut. And, for dessert, a homemade Bread Pudding.
Buffalo is a town that loves comfort foods. And, while some of these dishes may seem unfamiliar, you will not be disappointed. To read more about the history of Ulrich's, visit their website: www.ulrichstavern.net Click Here For The Rest.
