Last Saturday night, the Buffalobarfly crew experienced our first roller derby at Rainbow Rink in North Tonowanda, which hosts Western New Yorks only all women roller derby, The Queen City Roller Girls. In spite of a spirited comeback attempt by the Nickel City Knockouts, spearheaded by jammer Little Orphan Angry, the Alley Kats hung onto an early lead to edge out the Nickel City Knockouts by a score of 117 to 110 in front of a capacity crowd. The Roller bouts are actioned packed as two teams battle for position in an attempt to lap each other in order to score. Adults and kids are welcome to enjoy the game, food, and live half time show. Last weekend, we saw a rockin show by the Thermidors. A portion of the proceeds benefits the American Cancer Society. Join us at the next bout on Saturday, March 27 featuring a double header: the Ithaca League of Women Rollers Sufferjets vs Suicidal Saucies and Devil Dollies vs Nickel City Knockouts. Don't miss it! And, look for more photos, articles & updates as we learn all about this exciting, fast-paced sport.
