The party was hoppin' at the 2007 Buffalo Music Awards that took place Thursday, December 6th at Coyotes Night Club and Rock N Roll heaven. The evening started out with the VIP party where band members had some food and drinks enjoyed a live performance from recording artist Jan Close from NYC, and anticipated the night ahead.
Starting at 8 pm the Michael Bly Band performed on Coyotes stage, singing three original songs along with covers such as "Let's Get It Started" by the Black Eyed Peas. The Michael Bly Band was the winner of last years best beginning band award.
Following their performance awards were given out on the Rock N Roll Heaven stage. The best festival award was given to Concert on the Canal. Anchor Bar took home best jazz-R&B club and Shadow Lounge took home best Lounge. Individual drummer awards included R&B drummer Robert Hernandez, Blues drummer Rob Lynch, Rock drummer Pat Brayman, Pop Rock drummer David Green, and Original drummer George Tutuska.
Next, the Boys of Summer took the stage singing covers such as "Glory Days" by Bruce Springsteing. This band has been together for 17 years and is still going strong taking home numerous awards.
Back on the Rock N Roll Heaven stage best Dance Club award went to Club W. Individual keyboard awards went to, R&B keyboardist Eric Crittenden, Blues Keyboardist J.J. Muscato, and Rock keyboardist Bruce Stecker. Best bassist awards went to R&B bassist Jerry Sampson, Blues Bassist Tom Reinhart, Original Bassist Mike Morrisey, Pop Rock bassist Steve Edmonds, and Rock Bassist Bob Mayjack.
When McCarthyzim took the stage around 9:30, they wowed the audience with their unique sound when a trumpet, tenor sax, and violin joined the two guitarist, bass, and drummer.
Individual awards where given to Blues Sax player Jack Ribeliski, Best Horn Section went to The Hit Men Horns, and Best Instrumental went to David Moore. Individual guitarist went to R&B guitarist Jeff Nixon, Blues guitarist Mick Hayes, Original guitarist, Bruce Wojick, Rock guitarist Gary Edmunds, and Hard Rock guitarist Justin Kubiak. A special award, The Mark Freeland Creativity Award, was awarded to Jamie Moses.
The very popular band, Hit N Run took the stage next. The members of Hit N Run took home a lot of individual awards. They got the crowd excited when they immediately opened with a piano solo from "Come Sail Away" by Styx. They also did covers such as "Thunderstruck" by ACDC.
After the crowd shuffled back the the Rock N Roll Heaven side the best restaurant-music club of Niagara County was given to Dockside on the Canal. Best restaurant-music club of Erie county was awarded to Desidarios. Group awards were given to best small jazz group Jack Parowski Band and the best big band was awarded to Easy Street Big band. Lance Diamond announced the best male vocalist awards which were given to R&B singer C.J. Swan, Blues singer Johnny James, Original male vocalist Joe Maccarthy, Rock Cover singer Mark Valentino, and Hard Rock Cover singer Rob Nubauer.
The Boogie Monsters where the next band to perform. This band was full of energy and were having a blast with their jam session.
Best club awards were awarded by the adorable Night Life Magazine girls. All smiles on their faces they awarded Lafayette Taproom best Blues Club and Club Paradise best Pop-Rock Top 40 club. Next, the best Solo Award went to Greg Sansone, best Duo-Trio went to Busted Stuff, and best Original Acoustic Solo went to Gretchen Schultz. R&B singer Nicki Hicks was awards best female vocalist followed by Blues singer Gretchen Schults, Original female vocalist Alison Pipitone, and Rock Cover singer Lana Herbert.
Best Country Award winner, Bareback Jack took the stage next. Singing covers such as "Alabama" by Cross Canadian Ragweed they got the crowd tapping their toes to the country beats.
Club awards were announced after Bareback Jack left the stage. Sunset Bay took home best Party bar, Sportsmans Tavern won best Eclectic Club, and Coyotes was awarded best New Club (The owner of Coyotes gave a round of shots to the whole crowd!). Group awards included best Show band Terry Buchwald (also known as Elvis), Classic Pop band Boys of Summer, R&B group Soul Providers, Americana band Steom Donkeys, Country band Bareback Jack, Traditional Blues group Junkyard Dogs, Crossover Blues Group Mick Hayes Band, Pop-Rock band Hit N Run, and best group vocals also went to Hit N Run.
The last band to perform for the evening was The Rev. They performed some amazing covers and had the crowd dancing and singing along. Some of the songs that they performed were "Crazy Bitch" by BuckCherry and "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers.
There were many familiar faces that are well on their way to being inducted into the Music Hall of Fame. There were also some new groups that have already added a new dynamic to the Buffalo music scene. As the night ended and all the trophies and plaques were handed out everyone seemed to have a good time and people are already anticipating next years exciting event.
