Gabel's Annual Beach Party, hosted by the Buffalobarfly girls and Mike's Hard Lemonade. There were samples of the delicious new summertime beverage, Classic Margarita by Mike's in three tasty flavors: Traditional Lime, Raspberry & Peach! Today we heard some sad news, that the Lafayette Tap Room BBQ & Blues Saloon in downtown Buffalo, NY has CLOSED permanently. I called and the person who answered the phone at the Lafayette Tap Room confirmed that last Saturday was the last day that they were open & that the Lafayette Tap Room is CLOSED. We're sorry to see them go. There are not a lot of live music nightclub-bar type establishments downtown. And, none that we know of that feature blues-rock music. The Lafayette Tap Room also served up some terrific barbecue including smoked Buffalo chicken wings and fall off the bone ribs. We've had some really delicious meals there. Unfortunately it was a well kept secret. Sorry to see the Lafayette Tap Room go. We hope that the building developers will try to fill the space with a place that has the same type of atmosphere, music & flavor. Last weekend, we stopped at the Powder Keg Festival, Buffalo's first annual winter festival event, downtown. The Buffalobarfly crew started out the day with a delicious pancake breakfast at Pearl Street Grill & Brewery. Then we headed down to the 2nd floor to browse the displays from Buffalo area vendors such as Born in Buffalo, makers of the "I'd rather be snowed in" & "My city smells like Cherios" T shirts. Other cool Buffalo gear from City Love and New Era as well as much more was on display. Many showed up to enjoy Snow Tubing on the Skyway, Snow Shoveling contest, Skating, Food at the Pearl Street Bar, and an Ice Maze. Hopefully this event will become an annual event for Buffalo. Coinciding with the Pond Hockey Tournament, the festival will feature a variety of family-friendly events and promises to become an exciting annual tradition. It's the stuff of winter dreams, for adults and kids alike: Gathering with friends and family to enjoy hot food and refreshments, ice skating, broom ball, snowshoeing, carriage rides, and the polar bear swim; and unique and offbeat attractions like the World's Largest Ice Maze, igloo building, a snowshoveling contest, and snow tubing down the Skyway Seneca Street ramp. Start the day off with a pancake breakfast the Pearl Street Grill & Brewery! An all-you-can-eat breakfast including pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage links, coffee and milk. Adults $9, children under nine $6. Saturday and Sunday from 8am - noon. What a way to start off a day of winter games and outdoor activities! Best of Buffalo Vendors Market 11am to 5 pm both days during the festival The Vendors Market will be on the 3rd and 4th floors of the Pearl Street Grill & Brewery, providing festival attendees a place to escape the cold, and to check out local artisans and products. Last Tuesday, Artvoice held the annual Mardi Gras Parade in Buffalo. Over 40 floats traveled the route down Elmwood, Allen Street & Chippewa past cheering crowds of bead-hungry revelers.
